Magic of Science Outreach Event

The Magic of Science Festival was held on Saturday, September 12th at the Discovery Center at Waters Edge in Belcamp, MD. HCAS was invited to contribute to the festivities by Biologist Alena Calm who was Chairperson of the event. HCAS was represented by its President, Rob Bayne along with members Tom and Barbara Rusek. Rob spent the morning setting up our area outside close to an electrical outlet if needed. The view was outstanding of the Bush River.

The event lasted for four hours and was well attended. Rob had his large reflector at hand for observing. It was cloudy so he pointed it at the top of a distant group of trees. Young viewers were asked how the telescopic image differed from the view without it. Barbara and Tom presented handouts to the parents and told them about HCAS and future open houses. It was four hours of education and fun for all. I think the clouds made the event even more exciting. We were asked to be present at next year’s event.
